Merry knows the importance of finding the right therapist, someone you can trust and really connect with when life isn’t going your way. When you find yourself facing serious problems and don’t know where to turn, Merry can partner with you to help you discover real-life, personal solutions that will work for you. Merry passionately believes we all have the strengths within us to manage life’s obstacles and live a life full of meaning and joy.
Merry has genuine respect and compassion for her clients. She will intently listen to you and make sure she understands what you are going through and how you feel about it. She also understands the importance and impact of relationships in your life. She can help provide insights into your individual situation that will help you recognize solutions you may not have considered. She will help you learn to look at things differently to help bring about desired positive changes in your life.
What experience and training does she have?
Merry offers perceptive, intuitive assistance for issues regarding couple conflict, shame and guilt, destructive family patterns, child and adolescent issues, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, anger management, trauma, abuse, divorce, and addiction recovery.
Merry holds a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University. Her experience with couples’ marital and premarital counseling is reinforced through her domestic violence training and certification in Prepare/Enrich, Life Innovations, Inc.
Merry enjoys a vibrant, 30-year marriage. She and her husband have raised two children to adulthood. Merry’s 13 personal household moves ground her experience in helping clients deal with new surroundings and transitional struggles. She understands how hard it can be to deal with change and its implications for clients’ jobs, financial concerns, and parenting children. She also appreciates the intricacies children and adolescents must negotiate when making new friends and adapting to new environments.
Merry has extensive experience working with adolescents and young children and is a certified Parent-Child Interaction Training Coach. Her Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology sensitizes her to the developmental struggles of both children and adults in the home, at school, and in the workplace. Merry also has specialized training in Play Therapy, and is skilled at helping young children express and work through their feelings and concerns. In addition, Merry has also been trained (through BRIDGES, a Center for Grieving Children) to counsel those individuals and families who have experienced grief and loss. How can she help me?
Merry is passionate about helping to create and maintain healthy families through conflict resolution, relationship enhancement, and parental skill-building. She understands that individual people and families are not “one size fits all.” She knows that your problems are complex, and you need practical solutions and tools that are specifically tailored to you and will work in your life. Merry is a trained, experienced counselor and coach who will genuinely care about you, listen to you, and draw upon her experience, training, and education to determine the best strategies to help you reach your goals and live a satisfying and victorious life.
In her personal life, Merry performs in the Highline Flute Ensemble, enjoys spending time with her husband, son and daughter, and loves playing with her two Irish Setters, Faith and Baily.
